shopping at the covent garden

i.
whimsical pink at the doorway:
a rainbow of cupcakes under
glass domes

this time to admire only
not to savour
(i remember
you, strawberry vanilla)

ii.
hand in hand we meander
in circles inside circles
here the red peppers
artichokes& sour lemons
brussels sprouts sealed in a bag
there! the sausages again
chorizo or garlic

or maybe some cheese?

iii.
veins of blue cut through cream
jalapeno speckles
or walnuts on top
you smell through the plastic
france or italy

i stay close to home
until lunch

iv.
the cats are always beckoning
us to this quiet corner

your straw is striped
yellow& black with bubbles
& our sticks snap cleanly apart

i drop the first roll then
improve my hold&
outside the plastic flowers
wave to the snow
